Here is his story. Memorial Day weekend my 23 yr old son Lance Clark was in a drowning accident at laketexoma he did a cannonball off a 4ft cliff and drowned he thinks he hit a rock landing on his back could not move to swim. He broke his neck C5-C6 & L2 frac & severed spinal cord. But the most horror thing is that he remembers drowning. For 30 min they were doing CPR before ems got to him. He died 3 times during flight on the way to ok city. 3 hrs away. When he got to hospital they said he would be a veg. the rest of his life because of no oxygen for so long. He was on life support and all kinds of tubes, later on even one in his rib cage into his lung. He got a blood clot in lung from surgery 2 infections in lung from lake water and pneumonia and kept filling up with fluid. He had a fusion surgery in his neck they had to remove some of the bones/ vertebrae. the x ray showed that the vertebrae was completely detached and bent and the 2 and 3 lumbar had several hair line fractures Dr. said his spinal cord was severed into and that he would be paralyzed chest down the rest of his life one nurse said he could not open eyes an he would not be able to talk, breath on his own or fish again ect.. before surgery he had eyes open, talking as best he could around tube and he squeezed my hand gave me kisses said he loved me he ask me to turn off machine I said no don't listen to these people they have no idea he hit his legs I told him not to worry about that right now worry about getting those lungs clean and breathing on your own. Oh yea his eyes was glued shut for the surgery that is why he could not open them stupid nurse. 3 weeks of hard work he was breathing on his own, eating with help, move both arms and wrist. Allot of tingly but moved them can barely point but can not squeeze no more. He moved his neck to many times before surgery took them a week to do it as soon as Medicaid kicked on he was in surgery within the 1/2 hr. They wouldn't even give him a brace that fit him I told them I wanted him to have halo they refused. He had a couple set backs from lungs but in no time they were better. He went to rehab for 3 weeks he came home Fri 23 July he is here living with me now also disabled I can't even care for myself. He’s a paraplegic & a ½. And he is paralyzed from the waist down able to breath on his own, talk, and can move arms and wrist but he can not move his fingers. He has lack of fine motor skills. He has urinary track infections, bowel problems, and he is having bad headaches and sweats from both,losing muscle tone, weakness, gaining weight; and it will help all this and more. he spends his day usually lying in bed watching movies. Sitting and lying around is hurting his lower back and in many ways. and he is stressed. He finally broke down in tears said he's being punished. He has a little boy depends on him and he feels like he is letting him down being confined to this bed. He said he don't want elec chair he wants to stand and drive again. He has a manual chair but it is hard to go when you can't move your fingers. We have been looking at elecchairs and easy stands I know they would help him. He feels like he is getting feeling back some but without therapy and equipment I am afraid that he will never walk again. he is looking for funding for his medical equipment He is on Medicaid in Oklahoma and they are so strict on providing anything electric can't even get a rack for his wife’s tiny car and it won't carry a rehab manual chair specialy an elec one. We need help, that Medicare won’t cover. LANCE IS ON The Advantage PROG. And they have not given him PT or OT and it has been 6 months since he’s been home. And they have not informed us on any of these prog or assistance. We have been going round and round trying to find help with special equipment that he needs so bad. He is regressing fast. He needs this equipment to help him walk again Lance would greatly benefit may even help him walk again. If you or know a donor / fundraiser sponsor or something. That might help us we would greatly appreciate it. I just want him to be able to go fishing again. He has always been my fisherman and my fishy, swimming since he was 6 months old, I just can't believe this has happened hopefully one day he'll be able to swim again without fear.
